What ITF-14 is

ITF-14 renders a 14-digit GTIN-14 using the Interleaved 2 of 5 symbology, standardized for case and carton identification under GS1's logistics rules.

Generate it now

Type just the first 13 digits now to have the 14th check digit computed for you, or all 14 to have them validated.

Valid input

ITF-14 encodes exactly 14 digits including a Modulo-10 check digit; bwip-js computes the check digit if you supply the first 13.

Key options

Supported options include includetext, borderwidth, and showborder -- bwip-js draws a bounding-box border (often called a bearer bar) around ITF-14 by default, and borderwidth controls its thickness.

Output and printing

Export SVG for corrugated case artwork; bwip-js's default bounding-box border around ITF-14 helps the symbol print and scan reliably on corrugated material.

Common uses

ITF-14 identifies cases, cartons, and other non-retail packaging levels above the individual consumer unit.

Example

The seeded example, "0 952 1234 54321 3", is a complete 14-digit GTIN-14 -- try dropping the final "3" to see bwip-js compute the same check digit back from the first 13 digits.

Size guidance

bwip-js draws ITF-14 with a bounding-box border by default (borderwidth: 4); increase borderwidth for a more visible frame on corrugated printing.

Troubleshooting

A mismatched 14th digit is the most common error; let bwip-js compute the check digit from the first 13.

FAQ

Can I turn off the bearer bar?

Yes, with the showborder option, but GS1 General Specifications call the bearer bar mandatory on ITF-14 wherever printing it is feasible -- turning it off should be a deliberate exception, not a default.
