The Health Industry Bar Code (HIBC) standard, maintained by HIBCC, identifies healthcare and medical products with a Labeler Identification Code (LIC) plus product/lot data, carried inside familiar symbologies (Code 128, Data Matrix, and others) using HIBC's own character-set and check-character rules.

Choosing a format

• HIBC Code 128 is the common linear choice for primary product labeling.
• HIBC 2D variants (Data Matrix, QR, PDF417/MicroPDF417) suit smaller labels or higher data density needs.
